Memorial Day weekend 2010

Bailey had been asking for weeks to go to the beach and we had a break in the rainy weather so we made our way to Cannon Beach. We brought along Caden to join in the festivities. They were so excited to see the ocean. The weather was cold with breaks of sunshine, but no rain made it a perfect beach day (per Oregon standards).

We made it to the beach! Appropriate atire- three layers of clothing, fleece lined jeans and hoodies.

The 3 amigos.

Immediately upon our arrival Robert had to leave to purchase sand pails and shovels. Building sand castles was on Baileys to do list.

So happy. She found this feather can claimed it as her own.

Addie had a terrible time buiding castles. She'd put sand in her bucket then bump it out. Back and forth, back and forth.

Robert showed her several times how to shovel correctly but she never got the hang of it.

So they took a break to find sea shells.

Once the castle was built we all searched for sea shells.
Caden didn't want to touch the shells so he'd scoop them up with his shovel. After about 5 minutes his bucket was full of sand and water, which meant it was too heavy for him to carry.
Bailey picked up any and everything. She even picked up a soda cap bottle and was certain it was a shell.
Addie ended up with lots of seaweed and the cool shells that I found.

We took a break mid-day to have a late lunch at Mo's.
He was so hungry he needed to eat two fries at once.

The kids burgers were huge. I think they are the adult burgers without a tomato and lettace.

She was in burger heaven.

After lunch it was time for candy. So Bruce's was the obvious choice. We ran into our friends Jill & Travis at this stop and it was fun to catch up with them.

Aders hauling the candy loot.

Ecola park was our last stop. It was a rocky beach but less crowded.

We threw rocks.

Splashed in the water. You should see the pure excitment on Cadens face.

We ran from the water.

We fell in the sand.

We got really wet and really dirty. But it was the end of the day so it didn't matter.

Me and the Birthday girl.

Robert & Bailey, so cute.

Walking back to the car was horrible. The kids were tired, dirty, cold, wet, and mad. They did not want to leave the beach. They were having too much fun in the water. But the parents won in the end.

We changed the kids into dry clothes before putting them into the car. This is the water I poured out of Cadens boot. We got into the car and had a peaceful drive home because the kids were so exhausted.
